In June 2006, The Climate Project (TCP) began in Nashville, Tennessee. As a non-profit organization, its mission was to increase public awareness of the climate crisis at a grass roots level in the US and abroad. By April 2007, a growing group of 1000 volunteers from every corner of the USA was trained to present a version of the slide show as seen in the Academy Award-winning film, An Inconvenient Truth.
The Climate Reality Project Indonesia, a branch of The Climate Reality Project, supports the work of more than 1000 climate leaders in Indonesia that come from diverse backgrounds and include business leaders, professionals, educators, athletes, musicians, scientists, actors, students and religious leaders. The Climate Reality Project will inspire people to:
- Understand the urgency of the climate crisis and change their attitudes and behavior to be part of the solution (INDIVIDUAL)
- Promote local and national actions that lead to clean energy economies and jobs (NATIONAL)
- Build support for global action and implementation of international commitments (GLOBAL)
The establishment of Climate Reality Indonesia was announced during The Climate Project Asia-Pacific Summit in Melbourne, Australia 11-13 July 2009. TCRP Indonesia operates independently as Perkumpulan The Climate Reality Project Indonesia, a non-profit organization under consultation with the Office of the President’s Special Envoy on Climate Change.
At present, The Climate Reality Project Indonesia is managed by Amanda Katili Niode Ph.D. as its Manager.
