Baku, Azerbaijan, November 17, 2024 – The Climate Reality Project Indonesia, a part of the global movement to catalyze solutions to the climate crisis, continues to turn urgent action into a universal call to arms across all layers of society. At the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP29 UNFCCC, held in Baku, Azerbaijan, Climate Reality Indonesia spearheaded a series of intergenerational initiatives aimed at advancing climate action.
At the Indonesia Pavilion, Climate Reality Indonesia launched five books to support the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The titles include: 1) A Reference for Organizing Mock COP or Model United Nations for the UNFCCC; 2) Climate Café® on NDC: Understanding the NDC Challenge – Urgent Climate Actions and Stakeholder Engagement; 3) In the Embrace of Time: Memoir of an Earth Harmony Advocate; 4) Green Footprints: Walking Towards a Low Carbon Lifestyle; and 5) Clean Mobility Collective: Collaborative Solutions for Sustainable Urban Mobility.
Climate Reality Indonesia also introduced “Green Footprints: Baku, Azerbaijan,” a walking tour initiative designed to promote public transportation and walking as means to reduce air pollution, and minimize carbon footprints. Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan along the Caspian Sea, provided a fitting stage with its distinctive blend of history and modernity. The UNESCO World Heritage-listed Old City, or Icherisheher, with landmarks such as the Maiden Tower and the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, stood in contrast to Baku’s modern skyline, epitomized by the Flame Towers and the Heydar Aliyev Center.
The Indonesia Pavilion also hosted a talk show titled “Green World, Intergenerational Climate Action,” facilitated by Climate Reality Indonesia. This event served as a space for exchanging insights, sharing best practices, and discussing innovative solutions to the climate crisis by involving diverse age groups and stakeholders.
Moderated by Ari Adipratomo from Climate Reality Indonesia, the discussion featured distinguished speakers. Meg Bearor from The Climate Reality Project highlighted global emission reduction campaigns, while Amanda Katili Niode, Director of Climate Reality Indonesia, emphasized the importance of engaging youth communities. Ikbal Alexander, founder of Kertabumi Recycling Center, shared the challenges of waste bank initiatives in Indonesia, and Nithi Nesadurai from Climate Action Network Southeast Asia shed light on the just energy transition in Southeast Asia. Febrina Intan from PT Taman Wisata Candi offered insights on managing cultural heritage sites like Prambanan and Borobudur Temples to address the impacts of climate change.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to PT Pertamina Tbk for its invaluable contribution to the success of this event. We look forward to fostering even stronger collaborations in the future.
